I was at the local church yesterday pretty much by myself. I don’t go to church for mass, confession or to socialize. I go to meditate. Yesterday I was meditating in the smaller chapel but kept getting distracted by a child who was making noise so I left and headed to the big chapel to read a little of a book I brought along. As I was walking I heard organ music and as I entered the big chapel I saw the organist practicing. I sat down in one of the wooden pews, opened my book and began to read. It didn’t take long before I was distracted from my book by the music so I put it down and just listened to the sound of the organ for some time. There was no one in the chapel except me and the organist. It truly felt like she was playing just for me.
I don’t know that there is much of a point to this post, other than I wanted to share an experience. I suppose there is a lesson in everything and we could say that often in life we get busy and distracted and often miss what’s most important and often times what’s most important is right there in front of us; we just need to pay attention.
